Privacy Policy

Overview

courtScore is a pickleball tournament and social-play management app. We collect only what is necessary to run tournaments, send results, and maintain the leaderboard. We do not sell your data or share it with advertisers. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it.

What we collect

Account information

Your name, email address, and a hashed (unreadable) password when you create an account. Email verification status is also stored. If you sign up or sign in with "Continue with Google", we receive and store your name, email address, and Google's identifier for your account instead of a password, and we do not receive your Google password.

Player records

Player names and optional email addresses entered when creating a tournament. These exist independently of accounts -- a player record is created for every name entered, whether or not that person has an account.

Tournament and game data

Tournament names, game schedules, scores, standings, and results. Player names are stored alongside each game for historical accuracy.

Push notification subscriptions

If you enable push notifications, your browser generates a subscription (a delivery address and encryption keys) which we store, along with a short device description, so we can send notifications to that device. This is only created if you turn notifications on.

Server logs

Standard web server logs including IP address and request timestamps, retained for security purposes.

How we use it

Running tournaments

Player names and scores are used to generate fixtures, update standings, create the finals game, and finalize results.

Sending emails

Email addresses are used to send tournament result summaries to participants and co-admins who have notifications enabled. Email is never required to play -- it is always optional.

Leaderboard

Finalized tournament results are aggregated into an all-time leaderboard showing wins, titles, and win rate. This is public to all courtScore users.

Highlights

Each tournament you play in has a Highlights page showing you your own record within it, visible only to you and only if you have an account and played in that tournament. Where it names a match result against another player, that other player's name appears too, the same as it already does on the tournament's own fixture list and standings.

My Record

My Record shows you your all-time history across every tournament you have played, and requires an account to view. It is built only from tournaments you actually took part in. Some of its insights name another player you have played with or against, the same way a fixture list or standings page already does; it never shows anyone else's own record.

Notifications

courtScore sends two types of email: a tournament results summary when a tournament is finalized, and occasionally co-admin notifications. Every email includes an unsubscribe link. Registered users can manage notification preferences at any time in Account Settings.

Emails are delivered via a third-party email service. Your email address is shared with that service solely for delivery purposes. We do not use your email for marketing.

If you're logged in and choose to enable push notifications, courtScore can also send you a notification directly to your device (for example, when your tournament starts or is finalized, or your co-admin access changes) and shows a short history of these in the bell icon in the app. Push notifications are only sent if you explicitly turn them on, and can be turned off at any time in Account Settings.

Data retention

Guest tournaments

Tournaments created without an account are deleted automatically, along with any player records not linked to a registered account. A finalized tournament is removed 48 hours after it finishes, leaving time to view and share the results. One that is never finalized is kept for 60 days from when it was created, or until a week after its last scheduled session if dates were set, so a league running over several weeks is never removed while it is still being played.

Registered accounts

Your account and its associated data are kept until you delete your account. When you delete your account, your personal information (name, email, password) is removed. Game records in finalized tournaments retain your player name as a historical string but are no longer linked to your account.

Your rights

Access and correction

You can view and update your name and email address at any time in Account Settings.

Deletion

You can permanently delete your account from Account Settings. This removes your personal information immediately.

Unsubscribe

Every email contains an unsubscribe link. You can also manage email and push notification preferences in Account Settings without deleting your account. Turning off push notifications removes your subscription from that device.

Session cookie

Set automatically when you visit courtScore. Keeps you logged in during your browsing session and protects forms against cross-site request forgery (CSRF). Expires when you close the browser or after a short idle period.

Remember me cookie

Set only if you tick "Remember me" on the login screen. Keeps you logged in for up to 30 days so you don't have to sign in again. You can clear it at any time by logging out.

No tracking or advertising cookies

courtScore does not use advertising cookies or any third-party tracking scripts. Our analytics tool does not use cookies either (see "Analytics" below). Theme preference (dark/light mode) is stored in your browser's local storage, not a cookie, and never leaves your device.

Because we only use cookies that are strictly necessary for the app to function, no cookie consent banner is required. These cookies cannot be opted out of while using courtScore.

Analytics

We use Umami, a privacy-focused analytics tool, to understand overall traffic and which pages are used, such as page views and general visit patterns. Umami does not use cookies and does not collect any personally identifiable information -- we cannot see who you are from this data, only aggregate, anonymous usage trends. It is only active on the public site, never on the admin portal.

Third-party services

courtScore uses third-party infrastructure for hosting, email delivery, push notification delivery, and analytics (see "Analytics" above). If you enable push notifications, your device's subscription is passed to your browser's push service (for example Google for Chrome and Android, or Apple for Safari and iOS) purely to deliver the notification. Your data is shared with these services only to the extent necessary to operate the app. No third-party services receive your personal data for advertising purposes.
